Return of Scuttlebutt

Hello friends & supporters!

Welcome (back) to our blog on the happenings of SIMRS and our community surrounding Clayoquot Sound, British Columbia. Scuttlebutt began as a seasonal newsletter way back in 1992, as a way for Rod Palm (our founder) to share his stories and experiences on the water. Rod is infamous for his wild tales of seeking out killer whales on his research vessel “Eco”, getting his hands elbow deep into rare cetaceans as he performed numerous necropsies, and living life with “never a dull moment” in his nautical home the Norvan (pictured above) on Strawberry Isle. Read some of his past Scuttlebutt’s here.

Now, after 29 years of research, monitoring, and education in Clayoquot Sound, we hope that we can instill that same sense of awe and inspiration about our coast and carry on Rod’s legacy. Through our new Scuttlebutt blogs we will continue to share stories, research, events, and news from near and far about the incredible marine world that surrounds us.

Interested in sharing your own stories about marine life in Clayoquot Sound? Send us your topic and a quick summary to get featured in a future Scuttlebutt! Email info@simrstofino.org

Stay tuned for our first Scuttlebutt blog post!
